As part of our class topic, "Government in the UK and Europe",
we held a mock election. The class decided on four parties - the Party Poppers'
Party, The Smiley Party, The Smarty Party and The Forthill National Party. We
made rosettes and designed party logos. Mrs Snedden also took photos of the
parties and their candidates and saved them in the shared drive for everyone to use.
Next we had to decide
policies in our groups. There was much discussion before we decided on four or
five policies. Most policies were chosen from areas such as Transport, Education,
Environment, Health etc. In I.C.T. we produced manifestos while other people
made more at class and at home.
We decided to let the Primary 7s vote in the election so we
went campaigning to their classrooms. Each party spoke about their policies in
front of the Primary 7s. Everybody had to speak clearly, at a steady pace and
make eye contact with the audience. When we had finished speaking we left
manifestos in each classroom. Then we started preparing for Election Day.
We started to prepare for the big day by designing posters and
banners hoping to convince people to vote for our parties. A ballot box and
ballot papers were also needed. Some people made placards and others made
posters to place on the tables in the polling station. Of course, we needed
signs for the polling station, polling booths and the ballot box too.
At last we were ready for Election Day on Friday 12th
December!!
After assembly we set up the tables and decorated them with
all our posters and banners. Some of us stood outside with posters and
manifestos. As the voters arrived we tried to encourage them to vote for us.
Time passed by very quickly and we all felt exhausted. The votes were counted
and the winners were The Smiley Party!
